Today at Total Brakes we install a set of front and rear Girodisc rotors on our 2001 911 Carrera 4 (996). Girodisc rotors are a great upgrade for any car. The Girodisc 2 piece rotor system eliminates the heavy weight of the iron rotor "hat" and replaces it with an aluminum hat and floats the iron rotor ring.

If you are having issues at the track with pad wear, pad smearing, or cracked rotors, Girodisc rotors are an excellent way to help prevent these unwanted issues. By "floating" the rotor it helps with heat transfer to your wheel hub (where your wheel bearings live!) and also allows for better cooling. Additionally, Girodisc rotors feature internal "curved vane" vents. Curving the internal rotor vanes allows the vanes to be made longer, thus more effective. Think of them as a big propeller. Of course, Girodisc rotors are directional to achieve the same effect on both sides (unlike some GM rotors!).

Cooler running brakes means longer lasting rotors and longer lasting pads- something we all strive for! Not to mention, the new curved external slot design with jet black center hats are easy on the eyes.

As a bonus, on select Porsche applications such as our 996, the Girodisc rotor enlarges the rotor size by spacing the caliper outwards.
